What are you wanting to take it for: self-defense or fun? Both can be fun and both can be good for self-defense. MMA would be the better for self-defense because it simply is BJJ plus. It has BJJ (the schools I have seen teach a full grappling only BJJ class with the gi and all). With MMA you get all these bonuses: MMA's striking game, clinch fighting, wrestling, fighting without the help of the gi, etc. It's just that much better. BJJ is fine by itself. But, they do tend to focus on the sport side of BJJ than the overall self-defense form. But, even that it's not bad. But, compared to MMA it just doensn't have enough. Which one is more fun totally depends on you. Do you want to fight in the cage? If you do it's a no-brainer to take MMA. Do you want to compete in sport BJJ grappling? Obviously it's BJJ. Which one appeals to you more? You probably don't have to compete in either one. You can probably just take the class alone with competing too. |
